Spin Bearing for old White-Westinghouse washer After removing the entire tub, the hardest part is getting the old bearing out of the bottom of the tub. There are only 2 screws holding it in place but more than likely it will be stuck by years of dirt and water building up residue. I had to take a very large (about 1 1/8″) socket and hammer it out. This bearing (if you want to call it that, it’s really just a close fitting sleeve) fit very well. I lubed the transmission shaft with some general purpose oil and things went together OK. When we fired up the washer, it made a helluva screeching noise during the spin cycle. But she ran fine otherwise. After subsequent runs, it quieted down. By the 4th or 5th load she was super quite.
