Reliable Velocity 200IR Compact Vapor Generator Home Iron
The Velocity 200IR compact vapor generator iron is the ultimate expression of our iron know how. The Velocity 200IR thinks (and more importantly acts) like a pro iron. Water is heated internally so it turns into steam before it even reaches the sole plate (like our pro models). The end result is a steam iron that doesn’t leak and doesn’t spit water and delivers continuous steam that will astonish you.
Not the best, but better than the rest! I want to start by telling you why I bought this iron, then I’ll get right into my observations. I am a bit obsessed with irons… I’ve loved domestic appliances since I was a teenager… Irons are one of the 3 things I simply can’t resist (vacuums and sewing machines being the other two)… I currently own 9 irons… Oliso, Panasonic, Rowenta, vintage, Sunbeam (I have multiples of some brands)…. and the ironing love of my life, a Laurastar ironing system… Honestly, the Laurastar is…
Mixed blessing. In the last 18 months, since my old Rowenta died, I have gone through 3 expensive irons-two Rowentas with major flaws and one Oliso (the very worst of the lot) before getting this one. In other words, I have spent enough to have invested in a Laurastar…but what the hey. This iron has been a mixed blessing. The steam button on top takes a bit of getting used to but gives you a beeping warning if you hit it accidentally when ironing quilt blocks. Which is a good thing because you WILL hit it…
Robust cord that is not loose or wobbly, with a nice (not so sure how useful it is) cable clip. The iron is heavy for sure, and if you have arthritis or weak arms you may find this difficult to maneuver. The soleplate is a brushed finished and not mirrored like some other irons, and it still glides wonderfully.I did not fill the water up the way, so I did notice it making some odd sounds (it did not spit water) when steaming,The sounds are a bit concerning, so I’ll keep…
